Mavs star Luka Doncic

Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks is still the Los Angeles Clippers’ biggest nightmare. Doncic recently torched the Clippers to the tune of 35 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 assists, leading the Mavs to a victory on Tuesday night that gave the Clippers yet another reason to wake up in a cold sweat whenever a matchup against the Mavs was on the schedule. This adds to all the scares Doncic has given the Clippers in previous playoff runs.

But it was as well-earned a victory as one could hope for. Doncic nailed an unbelievable left-wing triple with the shot clock winding down over Nicolas Batum‘s outstretched arms with just over 30 seconds remaining in the fourth and the Mavs leading by a precocious point.

Strangely, given that the game was taking place on the Mavs’ home floor, Luka Doncic chose to make a “shush” gesture as the ball touched the twine in celebration. As per most fans’ confusion, Doncic was also perplexed when questioned about his choice of an unorthodox celebration after the game. It’s possible that he was simply overcome by the excitement of the occasion.

Luka Doncic

“I yearned for a party. Sincerely, I have no idea why I did it. I don’t know why I did it because I’m not going to silence our supporters, Doncic stated, according to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.

Given his history of fighting with some of the Clippers’ players, such as Marcus Morris and Terance Mann, Doncic may have been aiming the “shush” gesture at the team. However, the American Airlines Center crowd didn’t appear to begrudge Doncic’s celebration because they also erupted following such a crazy shot.

Even though the Clippers had plenty of opportunities to force the game into overtime in the end, Luka Doncic’s dagger turned out to be the decisive punch. Robert Covington had a chance to tie the game with an easy putback off a wonderfully timed free-throw miss from Nicolas Batum, but he ended up mishandling the ball. Reggie Bullock had missed a free throw to keep the Clippers within three points.

The Mavs’ victory moves them to 8-5 overall, and Doncic was back to his normal tricks on Tuesday night after two games with poor shooting. The Slovenian international plays at his very best when playing for the Clippers for some reason. In the second game of a back-to-back against the Houston Rockets, Doncic will try to maintain this level of play.
