mika zibanejad contract

Center Mika Zibanejad of the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League is a Swedish ice hockey player (NHL). The Ottawa Senators selected Mika Zibanejad with the sixth overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

A late addition to the 2011–12 Senators’ roster, this Swedish forward was sent back to Djurgrdens IF in Sweden after only nine NHL games. Zibanejad dealt with the Rangers on July 18, 2016, following five seasons with the Senators.

Mika Zibanejad signed an eight-year contract extension with the team on Sunday. New York Post reporter Larry Brooks says the deal is worth almost $68 million, with an average annual value “in the order of $8.5 million,” according to the New York Times.

Last season, Zibanejad led the Rangers in scoring with 24 goals and 26 assists in 56 games, good for second on the team with 50 points. It wasn’t just his goal totals that made him a standout. Since the beginning of this series, Mika Zibanejad has remained largely inactive. Although he averaged one point per game during the regular season, he had four points (all assists) in five playoff games.

With Sidney Crosby out of the picture for the Pittsburgh Penguins, it’s time for the New York Ranger’s #1 center to find the Mika-Magic that earned him an eight-year, $8.5 million contract deal.

The Rangers need him more than ever now that he no longer has to go up against Crosby.

Mika Zibanejad is required by the New York Rangers

The Crosby line was absolutely annihilating Zibanejad’s team whenever they were on the ice.

Crosby has nine points in this series despite not playing in Game 6. Bryan Rust has six points and Jake Guentzel has eight, with seven goals, on his line.

However, Chris Kreider, the team’s leading goal scorer during the regular season, has just two goals and four points. A total of 2 goals and 3 assists have been scored by Frank Vatrano.

According to Zibanejad, “I don’t think we’ve created enough offense” so far. As a result, “we are a little too concerned about the line we face.” As a whole, we’re doing our best to get through it. A tough opponent and we’re trying to play our own game,” says the coach.

Although Mika may not acknowledge it, it has been simpler to play against Crosby without him.

Even while the Rangers aren’t going to be able to rest their top line on defense, they’re less likely to get scorched by some incredible setups without one of the best offensive players of the last decade.

The 29-year-old Zibanejad had an outstanding year.

Mika scored 81 points in 81 games, a career-high. Chris Kreider scored 52 goals with him, including 26 on the power play, as a result of his assistance. With his ability to go for the kill right away and ask questions later, winger Frank Vatrano has been a great addition to the team.

“We still need to play our game and accomplish the things we did throughout the year,” Mika said before Game 6. In other words, “play my game and worry about what we do on the ice,” he says.

It is their goal from the start of their first shift to make the Penguins think twice about them.

Because all three players are proficient skaters, there is no reason why they cannot return to the defensive zone and escape it without incident. Even if Igor Shesterkin and the defensemen are left out to dry, they should still be able to generate enough speed out of their own zone to be an attractive danger.

In addition, Zibanejad stated that he enjoys the challenge and intensity of the playoffs.

It’s time for Mika to lead the charge and bring this series back to the Garden for Game 7.

The following season, Zibanejad joined the AIK IF youth organization and began playing junior hockey. During the 2009–10 season, he was signed by Djurgrdens IF to play for the club’s J18 and J20 teams. Zibanejad made his Elitserien debut against Lule HF on December 7, 2010. He scored his first goal against Tuomas Tarkki of Modo Hockey on January 15, 2011.  Lokomotiv Yaroslavl selected him 129th overall in the 2010 KHL Junior Draft.

In the second period of a game against the Philadelphia Flyers on March 17, 2021, Zibanejad completed a natural hat trick after scoring just three goals in 27 games to begin the 2020–21 NHL season. In the same game, he equaled Bryan Trottier’s NHL record of six points in a period set in 1978.

The Rangers won the game 9–0 in the end. 26 days later, on March 25, he added another hat trick as the Rangers defeated the Flyers 8-3. After Thomas Vanek and Peter Bondra, he became only the third NHL player to score a natural hat trick in consecutive games against the same opponent in a single season after him.
