Mookie Betts (born October 7, 1992) is a Major League Baseball right fielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers (MLB). He was a member of the Boston Red Sox’s prior team. He became the first player in MLB history to win the Most Valuable Player, Silver Slugger, Gold Glove, batting title, and World Series in the same season while playing for the Red Sox in 2018.
Betts was drafted by the Red Sox in 2011 and debuted in the major leagues in 2014, dividing time between second base and the outfield. In 2014, he was promoted to the Red Sox’s center fielder position, then to the right field in 2016.
Mookie Betts Injury
Another major injury has struck the Los Angeles Dodgers. Mookie Betts was placed on the disabled list with a cracked right rib after being wounded during an outfield collision with Cody Bellinger in the first inning of Wednesday’s game against the Angels. His comeback has not been scheduled. This comes only a week after ace Walker Buehler was diagnosed with an elbow issue, forcing him to miss another five to seven weeks of action.
“It’s a huge blow to all of us,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters. “But knowing and having the knowledge at least gives us some solace.” “We’ll have more information in a week.” We’re hoping to bring him back to us as soon as possible.”
Betts, 29, is batting.273 with 17 home runs, 40 RBIs, 53 runs scored, and an.884 OPS in his third season with the Dodgers, after being acquired in a trade from the Red Sox and signing a 12-year, $365 million contract extension. During the COVID-shortened 2020 season, he finished second in the NL MVP vote and helped the Dodgers win their first World Series since 1988.
In terms of injuries, Roberts stated, “I don’t want to invoke Murphy’s Law, but it’s been that way.” “You must continue forward. “It’s going to be a hard year.” The Dodgers (40-24) were a half-game ahead of the Padres in the National League West, with the Giants three games back.
Betts hit.292/.366/.562 in 2020, with 47 runs (4th in the National League), 16 home runs (3rd), 39 RBIs, a.928 on-base percentage, and 10 stolen bases. Betts saved three straight series in elimination games for the Dodgers in the NLCS against the Atlanta Braves on his way to his second World Series in three seasons. Betts has two RBIs and a home run in Game 7 of the World Series.
Betts also hit a game-winning home run in the 2018 World Series, which the Red Sox won. He joined Reggie Jackson as the ninth player in history to homer in multiple World Series clinchers. He tied the big league record for most doubles in a single postseason with eight. Betts won his fifth Gold Glove in a row (first in the National League) and his fourth Silver Slugger at the end of the season. He was runner-up in the National League MVP vote behind Atlanta Braves’ Freddie Freeman.
Betts made his first All-Star appearance with the Dodgers as he was named to the National League All-Star Team. He was unable to participate in the game due to injury, as he has been dealing with back and left shoulder issues all season. With a.264 batting average, 23 home runs, and 58 RBI in 122 games for the Dodgers, he was named to the All-Star team. He had two hits in four at-bats in the Wild Card Game, nine hits in 20 at-bats (.450) with one home run in the NLDS in 2021, and four hits in 23 (.174) at-bats in the NLCS in 2021.
