After starting the season with a dismal 0-5 record, the Los Angeles Lakers have finally won a game, defeating the Denver Nuggets on Sunday night to halt their skid at six games. Naturally, the entire NBA Twitter community had to join LeBron James and the Purple and Gold in their joy.
Of course, there are a few caustic and insulting comments sprinkled throughout. There is still a lot of basketball to be played, after all, and the Lakers have only won one game. But after a rocky start, a victory might be just what LeBron and company need to make a turnaround.

True, but this is only the Lakers’ first victory of the year. This suggests that while the squad still has a lot of work to do, fans shouldn’t really celebrate too much.

To be fair, there are a lot of positive lessons to be learned from the game that the Lakers can use to build upon in order to turn things around. One is that they made excellent 3-point shots. They shot 43.3 percent, making 13 out of 30 attempts from distance.
Also noteworthy is Russell Westbrook, who excelled in his bench position. He recorded the team’s best plus-minus (+18), demonstrating just how valuable he can be to the Lakers in that particular position. The early results have been fantastic, but it remains to be seen if he can fully embrace coming off the bench and maintain that production.
