Zoey Stark

For NXT’s Zoey Stark, this coming week was shaping up to be monumental. She made her bid for the Women’s title of that brand on Tuesday. After that, she and Nikkita Lyons were scheduled to face Natalya and Sonya Deville on SmackDown tonight (August 19) in the last first-round battle in the WWE Tag Team Championship Tournament.

Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer’s Bryan & Vinny Show lamented that Stark had been injured in her NXT Heatwave bout with Mandy Rose. Neither a cause nor a timeframe for recovery had been provided, but it appeared that Zoey and Nikkita would have to withdraw from the competition.

The reports from PWInsider are correct: Rose, Gigi Dolin, and Jacy Jayne are all in Montreal for SmackDown, but Lyons isn’t. The website reports that the choice to have a Toxic Attraction take on Natalya and Sonya was made yesterday.

There’s no word on who exactly will be working the match, although Dolin & Jayne have the most experience as a team, having won the NXT Women’s Tag titles twice before.

I pray that Stark’s wound is not too severe. Eight months of rest have passed since she first went out with a torn ACL and meniscus.

Professional wrestling organization WWE has officially announced the shift. Shawn Michaels, the head of NXT, has announced that both Stark and Lyons will not be appearing at Heatwave due to injuries sustained there. They have been replaced in the competition by Dolin and Jayne.

Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer tweeted on Tuesday that Stark had a concussion, but he had no other information regarding Lyons than what was in WWE’s announcement.

Career

Serrano’s signing with WWE was officially confirmed. Serrano, now known as Zoey Stark, made her 205 Live debuts with Marina Shafir on the show’s January 29 broadcast. They competed in the Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament, however, they were eliminated in the first round by Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart.

She debuted on the NXT show on February 17 and won her first match against Valentina Feroz. She lost to NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai in a non-title match on the February 24 episode of NXT.

Shirai gave Stark a public face by embracing him after the match. As seen on NXT, Stark defeated Toni Storm at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver. Stark and Io Shirai became the new NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions after defeating Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell at The Great American Bash.

At Halloween Havoc, in a triple threat tag team Scareway To Hell Ladder Match, Indi Hartwell and Persia Pirotta were defeated by Toxic Attraction (Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne). On the episode of NXT airing on November 2, Jayne and Dolin attacked Stark backstage, causing her to sustain a real tear of the MCL/Meniscus.
