Jalen Reagor

Wide receiver Jalen Reagor was dealt from the Philadelphia Eagles to the Minnesota Vikings on Wednesday. The Eagles will receive a 7th-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and a conditional 4th-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft that might fall to the 5th round if certain statistical benchmarks are not fulfilled.

Reagor was chosen by the Eagles with the 21st overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft. Although he spent two years in Philadelphia, he only managed to catch 65 passes for 695 yards and three touchdowns, which was well below expectations. Given that he was picked just one pick after Justin Jefferson, who seems to be the next big thing for the Vikings, hopes and dreams were understandably high. The two are now, ironically, teammates.

This offseason was Reagor’s most reliable as a professional, and it paid off when he was included on the Eagles’ initial 53-man roster. Howie Roseman, the team’s general manager, stated on Tuesday that one of the scouts had mentioned to him that Jalen was one of the only players who consistently attend practice.

Every day, he brought it in. Daily, he practiced his skill. And he did so with a positive outlook and boundless vitality. He’s obviously a talented individual. To put it simply, his age is 23. There was no question in our minds that he deserved a position on this team, so we made the decision to give him one.

Jefferson, Adam Thielen, and K.J. Osborn are at the very top of the Vikings’ depth chart at the position. But they needed more depth after losing No. 4 receiver Bisi Johnson to an ACL tear last week, putting rookie Jalen Nailor in a tough position.

To make way for Reagor, the Vikings waived wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette. The Vikings made their third deal in as many days on Wednesday, sending offensive lineman Chris Reed to the Pittsburgh Steelers and acquiring defensive tackle Ross Blacklock from the Houston Texans.

Reagor played his first game in the NFL on Sunday, a 17-27 loss against the Washington Football Team in which he had one catch for 55 yards. Because of a thumb ligament tear, he was placed on injured reserve on September 30, 2020. On October 31st, 2020, he was put into service. Reagor caught the first touchdown pass of his professional career in Week 8 of the season, a 23-9 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football.

Reagor scored a touchdown by returning a punt 73 yards for a score in Week 13’s 30-16 loss to the Green Bay Packers. This marked the first time that Reagor had ever scored a touchdown by returning a punt.

In a 13-7 loss against the New York Giants in Week 12 of the 2021 NFL season, Reagor was responsible for dropping two passes, one of which was a score. Reagor muffed two punts, losing one, in the Eagles’ 31-15 Wild Card round loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
