Cm Punk Injury

As he recovers from surgery to fix his fractured foot, Punk has been sidelined from AEW programming. To prepare for his title defense against Interim AEW Champion Jon Moxley on “AEW Dynamite,” CM Punk recently spoke with Sports Illustrated about the injury and his comeback.

Punk begins, “It’s a sensitive subject,” explaining that he has “issues with the way [his] health was treated in the past.” Punk remarked about his foot, “All my time awake has been spent recuperating my foot to full strength. My doctor has given me the all-clear. Whether or not it implies I’m completely certain is where the complicated answer comes in.”

Punk likens the uncertainty to his first fight in the UFC, a loss to Mickey Gall, after which he declared in an interview that he enjoys “climbing the mountain” regardless of whether or not he reaches the summit.

“I’ve prepared myself, but you can never be truly ready unless you take action. To get this foot ready, I’m giving it my all, but it won’t be ready until I actually do it. Waiting to play a game to see if I’m ready. It will be interesting to see where we stand after a game.”

Following the incident, Punk claims he was extremely clear with his wife, doctors, and boss Tony Khan: “I’m in a rush to get healthy, not in a rush to get back.” For example, Punk claims that during his time in WWE.

he was urged to return to work “two weeks after knee surgery” due to the company’s prioritization of the match over the performers’ health. “That made me uneasy,” Punk admitted. To put it plainly, “I feel testing my limits on Dynamite.”

Career

Cm Punk Injury

Punk made his AEW debut at Rampage’s The First Dance event, challenging Darby Allin to a match at the upcoming All Out pay-per-view. After a seven-year hiatus, Punk made his way back to the wrestling ring for this match.

On September 5, he competed against Allin and emerged victorious. In February 2022, Punk suffered his first loss in AEW when he was defeated by MJF in a single match on Dynamite.

The two had been battling for quite some time. At Revolution, in a Dog Collar match, Punk exacted revenge for his earlier loss to MJF. The AEW World Championship was Punk’s first world title win since the 2011 Survivor Series, and it came at Double or Nothing on May 29 when he defeated “Hangman” Adam Page.

Punk said on the June 3 episode of Rampage that he would be out of in-ring action to heal from an injury, but would still hold the AEW World Championship five days after winning it. In Punk’s absence, Jon Moxley was declared interim champion at AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door on June 26, with a title unification battle scheduled for when Punk recovered from his injuries.

When Punk returned for the August 10 episode of Dynamite titled “Quake by the Lake,” he squared off against Moxley in a title fight. As a result, All Out was set to host a match between the two contenders for the AEW World Championship.

The conflict between the two led to the match being moved to the August 24 episode of Dynamite, where Punk was promptly defeated by Moxley, bringing an end to Punk’s reign after the shortest amount of time in history at 86 days.
