Precious Achiuwa

Precious Achiuwa, a third-year big man, recently suffered the latest in a string of injuries that have plagued the Toronto Raptors. Achiuwa is sidelined indefinitely as a result of partial ligament injuries in his right ankle, according to Eric Koreenof The Athletic.

Precious Achiuwa had participated in each of the Raptors’ first 12 games of the current campaign and had shown signs of being a productive player in spurts. He had been playing 20.4 minutes of the game after coming off the bench. Even though he was scoring 8.8 points and grabbing 7.0 rebounds, his field goal percentage was a career-worst 39.1 percent.

On October 24 in a victory over the Miami Heat, he had one of his best performances of the season, recording 10 points and 22 rebounds. The Heat selected Achiuwa first in the 2020 draught with the 20th overall pick. Prior to being dealt to the Raptors as part of the Kyle Lowry sign and trade, he spent one season with the Heat.

The Raptors’ frontcourt is exceedingly thin without Pascal Siakam and Khem Birch in addition to Achiuwa. Birch has only appeared in four games so far this year, and his season start was postponed while he recovered from right knee surgery in the off-season. His left knee is the most recent area of injury.

Siakam sustained a right adductor muscle strain in Saturday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks and will be out for at least two weeks. Siakam had a successful professional year. The Raptors are currently in fifth place in the Eastern Conference rankings after starting the season 7-5.
