Reece James Contract

Born in England on December 8, 1999, Reece James is a professional footballer who plays right back for Chelsea of the Premier League and the national team. James entered Chelsea’s development programme as a child and eventually went professional in 2017—the same year he led the club’s under-18 team to an FA Youth Cup title and was honoured as the program’s Academy Player of the Year. After a successful loan at Championship club Wigan Athletic in 2018,

Chelsea promoted him to the first team in 2019, and he quickly established himself as a regular starter at right defender, leading to a contract extension in January 2020. He has been lauded as one of England’s top right backs and is highly regarded for his defensive abilities and offensive versatility.

Contract

Following negotiations with owner Todd Boehly, the 22-year-old has reportedly agreed to terms on a massive new contract. Within the following few days, he is anticipated to officially sign the multi-year contract and pledge his future to the Stamford Bridge club.

James will earn more than any other defender in the club’s history as a result. The right back’s reported current weekly salary is £58,000, but his new contract would pay him more than £200,000.

Summer signings Wesley Fofana, who was transferred to Chelsea from Leicester City for £70 million, is rumoured to be making £200,000 per week. When James signs his new Chelsea deal, he will be making more money than his new French teammate.

Aside from that, he’s going to make more than the likes of club superstars John Terry and Ashley Cole. After spending the 2018–19 season on loan at Wigan Athletic, James established himself as a starter for Chelsea.

Since his first game for the team in 2019, he hasn’t missed a beat. James has earned a reputation as one of the top right-backs in the world thanks to his stellar play over the course of his career. As of 2020, he has earned 13 caps for England after making his debut that year. According to The Athletic, the contract has not yet been inked but is likely to be within the next few days.

Because he signed his current deal in January 2020, shortly after breaking into the first squad, the England international has been making relatively modest salaries compared to many of his teammates. The 22-year-old will quickly become one of the Blues’ highest-paid players, with a contract that exceeds that of Stamford Bridge legends like John Terry and Ashley Cole.

Career

James played for England’s young teams at the under-18, under-19, under-20, and under-21 levels. When the 2017 Toulon Tournament was being put together in May, James was selected to be a part of the under-20 squad.

He was a starter for the winning English team that defeated the Ivory Coast in the championship game. James was on the winning team at the UEFA European Under-19 Championship in July 2017. Against the Czech Republic, he started in the semi-final.

In the first half of the last group game loss to Chile on 7 June 2019, James, a member of the under-20 squad that travelled to the 2019 Toulon Tournament, was carried out on a stretcher with ankle ligament damage.

James made his debut with the U-21 team on 4 October 2019. On 15 November 2019, he made his debut for the under-21 team during a 3-0 victory over Albania in a qualifying match for the 2021 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.

Because of Raheem Sterling’s injury, manager Gareth Southgate called up James for the first time on October 5, 2020. On October 8th, he made his professional debut for England when he replaced Kieran Trippier in the 58th minute of a 3-0 victory over Wales at Wembley Stadium.

In only his second career start, against Denmark, he received a red card for protesting the final whistle. James has been included in England’s preliminary roster of 26 players for Euro 2020. James started the 0-0 draw against Scotland at Euro 2020. As of November 2021, he claimed to be in the best shape of his career and to have aspirations of becoming England’s starting right back.
