On Wednesday at the Adelaide Oval during the 2017 T20 World Cup versus Bangladesh, India skipper Rohit Sharma struggled with the bat. Rohit Sharma hasn’t been like himself since moving to Australia, and he’s been ineffective in three of the Men in Blue’s four games thus far in the major competition.
Rohit Sharma was once again cheaply removed against the Shakib Al Hasan-led team after posting single-digit scores against Pakistan and South Africa. Taskin Ahmed, a Bangladeshi speedster, caused problems for Rohit Sharma right away with his quick pace and erratic movements in the air. Rohit Sharma appeared uncertain right away. He made an attempt to remove the chains as Taskin Ahmed and Rohit Sharma appeared to be in excruciating discomfort.
Rohit Sharma attempted to knock the ball over the fence, but instead only managed to hit it directly into Hasan Mahmud’s hands, who dropped a sitter to give him a huge reprieve. The 35-year-old left the field in the next over, which was bowled by Hasan Mahmud himself, thus the dropped catch did not prove to be too expensive for Bangladesh.
Dejected by Rohit Sharma’s disastrous performance against Bangladesh, Indian fans. They posted memes on Twitter to vent their ire at him for his poor performance in Adelaide, making fun of the India opener.

India was able to post a substantial total on the board despite Rohit Sharma’s poor performance in the game. Virat Kohli’s third fifty of the match and KL Rahul’s return to form helped India set Bangladesh a target of 185 to win the match. Virat Kohli finished the innings undefeated on 64 off 44 balls, while KL Rahul blasted a lightning-quick 50 off 32 deliveries.
Bangladesh got off to a flying start in their pursuit of a massive total, with Liton Das hitting all the right notes right away. Liton Das stunned the Indian bowling unit by scoring the second-fastest fifty of the 2022 T20 World Cup, doing it in just 21 balls.
But after he was dismissed by a direct shot from KL Rahul, the game’s dynamics completely changed, and India went on to win by five runs.
India’s victory also guaranteed them the first spot in Group 2.
After the game, Rohit Sharma praised his team’s efforts, but he singled out Virat Kohli for the team’s outstanding performance in the T20 World Cup.
Rohit Sharma remarked that Virat Kohli was always near to his best and it was just a question of a few excellent knocks, taking a shot at the cricketer’s detractors, including the legendary Kapil Dev, who had pushed for the removal of the talismanic batter from India’s T20I team.
“In my opinion he was always there, it was a matter of few innings here and there, he got it in the Asia Cup. We never had any doubts and the way he has been batting in this World Cup has been tremendous and he is really doing it for us (on Kohli),” Rohit Sharma said after India’s win.
KL Rahul, who hadn’t allowed his bat do the talking in India’s previous three games, also impressed Rohit Sharma.
“Also liked the way how KL played today. We know what sort of a player he is, if he bats the way he can, he puts the team in a different position. Our fielding was brilliant, some of the catches we took was great to watch. It’s a high-pressure game, to take those catches shows the ability of our guys and honestly I never had any doubts about our fielding,” Rohit Sharma added.
The India captain also praised left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh, who helped the 2007 T20 global champions defeat the Bangla Tigers by five runs by successfully defending 19 runs in the match’s final over.
“I was calm and nervous at the same time, but it was important to stay calm as a group to execute. Shortened games can go either way, but we held our nerves well after the game started, it was a good win in the end. Arshdeep, when he came into the scene, we asked him to do the death overs for us.
With Bumrah not there, it was a tough job for someone to take up. For a young guy to come and do that kind of a job is not easy, we’ve prepared him. He’s been doing it for 8-9 months. I had to back someone who had been doing it regularly, it was a choice between Shami and Arshdeep,” Rohit Sharma revealed.
