Sammy Watkins Injury

Green Bay Packers wide receivers are allegedly battling with some health issues before training camp begins. On the active/non-football injury list, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported, that Sammy Watkins was put by the NFC North club after suffering an injury in a non-football situation.

Field Yates, a reporter for ESPN, reported earlier this week that wide receiver Christian Watson was one of nine Packers players placed on the PUP list. Davante Adams was dealt to the Las Vegas Raiders, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs, so the Packers’ wide receiver position has been under scrutiny this summer.

As a result of the departure of five-time Pro Bowler Jordy Nelson, Green Bay’s secondary playmakers became even more of a worry. In the second round of the NFL draft, Watson and Watkins were two of those weapons, as a one-year deal from North Dakota State.

On the same day ESPN’s Adam Schefter revealed that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed future Hall of Famer Julio Jones despite Green Bay’s interest, it feels like bad timing for the Packers.

Watkins has a chance to become the team’s top wide receiver if he can remain healthy. Since being selected fourth overall in the 2014 NFL draft, the Clemson product has played for the Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Rams, Kansas City Chiefs, and Baltimore Ravens.

While he has never lived up to the lofty expectations that come with being a first-round pick, he did surpass 1,000 receiving yards in his second season and has five seasons with at least 500 passing yards.

Rodgers and Watkins share the field in a lackluster offense, and Watkins can use that as an opportunity to rack up catches and targets.
