The NBA Summer League debut of Portland Trail Blazers player Shaedon Sharpe did not go as planned. Due to an ailment in his left shoulder, Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reports that the lottery pick was forced to sit out Thursday’s game against the Detroit Pistons. MRIs are also scheduled to be done on Sharpe, says Haynes.
With two points on one-of-three shooting and a turnover to his name, Sharpe, the 7th overall choice in the 2022 NBA Draft, had a disappointing night. Damian Lillard, the Trail Blazers’ leading guard, was asked about Kentucky youngster Kemba Walker during the game.
Lillard told ESPN that he has been training every day. After the draught, he’s been working there ever since. Ones from certain locations are played by us. His eagerness to join us made us laugh. Incredibly talented and gifted.

You really must get out and play. Putting him in the midst of the action is essential. When you’re picked so high, you have to be proud of yourself and show everyone why. Maintaining my reputation as a top-tier prospect. Everyone who’s been selected in the top 10 goes out and says, “I’m a top-10 pick; I need to prove myself to these folks. I’ve been there, and I know what it’s like. His time has finally come. It will be interesting to see how he demonstrates this.”
As a high school senior, Sharpe was rated as the No. 3 overall recruit in the Class of 2022 by 247Sports. Sharpe arrived at Kentucky early and did not play in any of the Wildcats’ games as he adjusted to the collegiate experience. The way John Calipari discussed Sharpe’s future in the draught with the Wildcats in March was well-documented.
In an interview, Calipari said, “We sat down and talked to him.” After speaking with (Sharpe’s mother and father), I came to the conclusion that he should go exploring. In the end, he’ll decide, ‘Okay, do I want this right now?’ When will I be ready for this? Is it where I expected it to be or is it somewhere else?’ This is because the information you receive comes directly from the NBA, not an agent or anybody else.
“Because it’s from the NBA, you have a better grasp of how things work.” In the meantime, it’s difficult to reach all of the students who need this knowledge. However, he’s not the only one. We had a lot of fun in practice, and I look forward to having the opportunity to work with him in a real game. He’s a great kid. He’s just one of those people, you know. Even yet, he has a remarkable ability.”
Eric Bossi, the 247Sports national basketball director, assessed Sharpe after his senior year of high school and predicted that he would go in the top ten of the draught.
Bossi described Sharpe as “an explosive athlete with a nose for the rim” in his assessment of the player. A quick first step and the ability to get downhill, into the lane, and finish around the rim make him a hard man to stop.
He loves to catch and face. Sharpe’s ability to handle the ball, shoot pull-up jumpers, and make three-pointers from beyond the arc has greatly improved in the last year. He has become a much more creative scorer and playmaker for others because of his better ballhandling. ‘ When it comes to his defensive skill set, Sharpe has everything he needs to become a player who is equally destructive on the offensive end of the court.”
