The Colorado Avalanche seriously damaged the Stanley Cup shortly after receiving it. Nicolas Aube-Kubel tripped and gave the Cup a good ding as the squad posed for a picture.
The Avalanche won Game 6 2-1 over the Tampa Bay Lightning to seal the series and claim the coveted Stanley Cup. Even though it was understandable that the Avs were eager to skate around Amalie Arena with the Stanley Cup above their heads, Aube-Kubel arrived too hot for the team photo.
When Aube-Kubel attempted to join his teammates, he ran into a snag in the ice and fell hard, carrying the Stanley Cup with him. The trophy’s bottom was dented, but none of the Avs appeared to care in the least. Fortunately for Aube-Kubel, the Stanley Cup has seen a lot in its time and has seen worse.

The Avalanche can hardly be held responsible for their boisterous celebration. The franchise faced numerous changes and adversities to reach this stage after only five years in the NHL’s cellar.
With the help of general manager and Avalanche legend Joe Sakic, the Avalanche was able to develop into a powerhouse in just a few seasons. With a Stanley Cup run that included two sweeps and an overall record of 16-4, Colorado finished the regular season with 119 points.

The Avalanche won their third Stanley Cup overall, having previously won two in 1996 and 2001. Sakic has participated in all three, two as a player and one as the general manager of the team.
