The Philadelphia Union has already secured a spot in the MLS Cup Final in 2022. The Union went to the first MLS Cup Final in the club’s history with a 3-1 victory over NYCFC.
Maxi Moralez’s goal for NYCFC in the 57th minute gave them the lead. However, the Union soon made a breakthrough, and it was like a dam breaking when they did.
Philadelphia leveled the score in the 65th minute with a goal from Julian Carranza. A goal from Daniel Gazdag inside the penalty area gave the Union the lead less than two minutes later. In the 76th minute, Cory Burke put the icing on the cake.
Philadelphia finally succeeds after years of coming close but not quite making it. As the league’s top regular-season team in 2020, they took home the Supporters Shield. However, they were defeated by the New England Revolution in the opening round.
The Union made a long run in 2021. They even advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals, when they faced NYCFC. In that situation, NYCFC emerged victorious and went on to win the championship.
This year, the Union is competing in the final and will be facing a fresh opponent. LAFC, who are also competing in their first MLS Cup Final, are their opponents.
In the Western Conference Final, LAFC triumphed against Austin FC, a second-year team. Seriously talented superstars support the team. Giorgio Chiellini, a former Juventus star, and Gareth Bale, a former Real Madrid forward, both joined the team in the summer. They have been crucial to the club’s run to the championship.
On November 5, 2022, the MLS Cup Final will take place. The match will take place at LAFC’s home stadium, Banc of California.
