Dejan Kulusevski put on a show in Tottenham’s 4-1 win over Southampton in their Premier League debut and promised to improve from there.
A superb left-footed cross from the Swedish international found Ryan Sessegnon, who headed home an equalizer for Spurs in the 21st minute after falling behind early to the Saints thanks to the Swede’s skill.
After Eric Dier’s first-half header and Mohammed Salisu’s own goal, Kulusevski capped off the scoring in the capital with a stunning curled effort in the 63rd minute.
Even if manager Antonio Conte didn’t start any of the club’s six new additions from the offseason transfer market, the heightened competition for spots appears to have already had an effect. Kulusevski said to Spurs TV, “All my goals come from this area or three or four meters back. I have to keep scoring these but also keep expanding my game and scoring various goals.”

A full complement of 20 fully prepared players is crucial, and the new players we’ve brought in are fantastic. “I need to develop myself. I need to improve in every manner possible. Listening to my great coach, maintaining a low profile, and pursuing my goal of being a professional football player are the three most important things I can do to improve.
Spurs’ excellent conclusion to the 2021-22 season, highlighted by a victory away at Norwich on the season’s last day, was largely attributable to the addition of Kulusevski in January. This result guaranteed Spurs fourth place in the league and a berth in the Champions League.
All of my goals have been scored from within three or four meters of this spot. Kulusevski said on Spurs TV, “I have to keep scoring these, but I also have to keep expanding my game and scoring new goals.”
It’s crucial that all twenty players are match-ready, and the new players we brought in are fantastic.”If I want to become a great football player, I have to continue to listen to my fantastic coach, maintain a humble attitude, and pursue my dream,” he said.
Kulusevski, who joined Spurs in January, played a key role in the team’s strong finish to the 2021-22 season, which culminated in a victory away at Norwich on the season’s final day to secure fourth place and a position in the Champions League.
“It wasn’t an easy game, going behind at home isn’t fun, but once we scored, we could have scored a lot more,” Kulusevski remarked in his postgame TV interview.
To quote one of our players: “I love how this team is playing because we create a lot of chances and the fans are enjoying it. I’ve missed playing, and it’s something I enjoy doing. It was great to see old friends and make new ones, and I loved performing in front of my adoring public.
