Christian McCaffrey’s San Francisco 49ers debut against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday is not guaranteed at this time. However, if he does face Patrick Mahomes and company, CMC will be heavily deployed immediately away.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport:
New 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey, who has already spoken with team officials and coach Kyle Shanahan, will depart for his new residence tomorrow. A red zone package is to be expected if he plays on Sunday, which is likely to happen. He will gradually increase from there.
Owners of Christian McCaffrey fantasy football teams must be in agony every week over the lacklustre offensive environment he was a part of when he was still playing for the Carolina Panthers. It must sound like Mozart playing live in their bedrooms. With the 49ers, where he is again surrounded by better players, McCaffrey can be counted on to once again perform at a high level and do so much more frequently.
McCaffrey nonetheless put up respectable stats in his six games with the Panthers this season, totaling 393 running yards and two touchdowns on 85 touches for an average of 4.6 yards per carry. On 33 receptions, he has 277 receiving yards and a score.
This season, the 49ers have not frequently targeted their running backs in the end zone, but that is likely to change now that Christian McCaffrey is a member of the squad. Only Jeff Wilson of the San Francisco running backs has had a target in the end zone so far this season. According to NFL Savant, McCaffrey led the Panthers in Carolina after six weeks with five targets in the end zone that resulted in three catches and a touchdown.
