When the San Francisco 49ers acquired star running back Christian McCaffrey last night, the NFL world froze.
The Carolina Panthers let go of McCaffrey, the face of their team, in what is likely the biggest move of the 2022 campaign. The former Stanford running back has now returned to California, the state where he first found success.
McCaffrey arrived in San Francisco early on Friday. He immediately demonstrated how thrilled he was to have joined the 49ers.

The 49ers then released a video with McCaffrey addressing the fan base via their official Twitter account.

The 49ers mortgaged a tiny portion of their future in order to acquire McCaffrey from the Panthers. They provided a trade package that contained a pick in the second, third, and fourth rounds of the 2023 NFL draught as well as a pick in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL draught.
The 49ers are currently betting everything on success. Excluding any comp selections, they won’t have a draught pick of their own until round five in 2023 as a result of prior moves and the package to acquire McCaffrey.
But if McCaffrey can live up to the 49ers’ expectations, this squad might be in a winning position right now.
