Halloween.Scream.Hellraiser. The three mentioned above and others are all a part of a wave of reboots, sequels, prequels, and reimaginings (feel free to add your own buzzword) that are either reviving somewhat dusty titles for new generations of fans or putting the final nail in their crusty old coffins. Legacy horror franchises properties whose origins reach back decades have returned in a big way.
The reason for this is obvious: if you thought Hollywood craved tested intellectual property (IP, as it’s known to us common folk, before the pandemic), the major studios are even more eager to gulp down and regurgitate as much of it right now after the Covid-19 pandemic almost put the theatrical film industry out of business and left it still on shaky ground.
