When Cristiano Ronaldo declined to come on as a substitute and abruptly left the Old Trafford tunnel before the final whistle in Wednesday’s win over Tottenham, the situation at Manchester United came to a head.
Since then, the Red Devils have issued a statement on the subject and said that Ronaldo won’t be participating in this weekend’s pivotal match against Chelsea.
In response to the circumstances on Wednesday, Cristiano Ronaldo himself made a moving Instagram post.
“I try to live and play with respect for my teammates, rivals, and coaches, as I have throughout my career. That is still the case. I remain the same. “Respect has always played a very important role in my decision-making process, and I am the same person and the same professional that I have been for the last 20 years playing elite football,” Cristiano Ronaldo stated.
“I got my start when I was very young, and I always looked up to the older, more seasoned players as role models. Therefore, in the future, I’ve always attempted to serve as an example for the kids who developed in all the teams I’ve represented. Unfortunately, it’s not always possible, and occasionally we let our emotions get the better of us.
“At the moment, all I feel like I need to do is keep working hard in Carrington, help out my teammates, and be prepared for everything that may come up in a game. There is no option to give in to the pressure. It was never. We must stand as one as Manchester United. We’ll be reunited shortly.

It sounds like Ronaldo is repenting for what he did. While leaving the field before the game was over was incredibly egotistical of him, it’s also upsetting to see Ronaldo handled with such blatant disrespect. In 2022–2023, he has only started two Premier League games, and even when Erik ten Hag comes on as a substitute, he only plays a few minutes.
At this moment, it’s difficult to envision Cristiano Ronaldo mending ties to United. But at least he is making an effort. That demonstrates the 37-year-true old’s professionalism.
