Jason Peters, an offensive lineman with the Dallas Cowboys, made news earlier this week for his assessment of the Philadelphia Eagles’ fan base. Fellow veteran Jason Kelce has sort of retaliated.
Peters, who played for the Eagles for 11 seasons, will play for the Cowboys on Sunday and travel back to Philadelphia. When talking about the Dallas-Philadelphia rivalry this week, the offensive tackle, who has made nine Pro Bowls, called Eagles supporters “f—ing fools” who “pride themselves on being ugly.” The complete comments can be read here.
Although it might not have appeared that way at first, Peters was praising Eagles supporters for their ardour. Kelce recognised that. On Thursday morning, the Eagles lineman was questioned about the remarks made by his former teammate on SportsRadio 94WIP in Audacy. Peters is a “big fan of the Philadelphia crowd,” according to Kelce. Additionally, he expressed some of his personal views on Eagles and Cowboys supporters.
These two polar opposites have played so many important football games together while being in the same division, according to Kelce. “You have the Philadelphia fandom, which is a really specialised, devoted group of supporters who are true to themselves because, you know, they all grew up together in this neighbourhood and this authentic environment. Additionally, the Dallas Cowboys have a sizable fan base, but it is largely based on consumerism and pop culture adoration, much like the Yankees and Lakers, which is, in my opinion, the exact antithesis of what the Philadelphia Eagles’ fan base stands for.
Although Kelce was spot on, Cowboys supporters are sure to see it as an insult. That is why there is such a strong rivalry.
Peters is currently sporting a Cowboys uniform, but Eagles supporters should still welcome him with open arms. He is one of the greatest players in the history of the team. Even though he may have changed his mind about some of his earlier comments about Dallas, he does not merit jeers for everything that he accomplished in Philadelphia.
