The much-needed makeover for the Carolina Panthers is now officially underway. The resignations of head coach Matt Rhule and star running back Christian McCaffrey serve as unequivocal proof that this is in fact taking place. They want to start over and attempt to assemble a completely new team, hopefully with a completely new coach.
Sean Payton is one of the names being bandied around as the next prospective head coach for the Panthers. One of the top names in the market right now is the former New Orleans Saints head coach. Carolina would advance significantly if she acquired him. Unfortunately, it appears that their recent actions are insufficient to persuade Payton to join their former division opponent. through Mike Kaye
Interesting stuff from Jay. Payton is under contract with the Saints so that was probably a non-starter to begin with, because NFC South trade unlikely.

The Panthers have reportedly done their homework and asked Sean Payton whether he’s interested in the position, according to Jay Glazer. After all, he would conceivably inherit a team that he could shape to his preferences. For any new coach to work with, Carolina has a fresh batch of draught picks (and more to come, if the DJ Moore rumours are accurate).
But evidently, Sean Payton isn’t convinced by it. Payton’s continued commitment to the Saints under the terms of his contract is another factor. The Panthers, a division opponent, are unlikely to receive a coach exchange from New Orleans. Still, given Payton’s history as a head coach, it was probably worth questioning.
The Panthers’ season will be quite lengthy. Gaining victory will be extremely difficult after dealing away their finest offensive player. We’ll watch to see what additional decisions Carolina makes as they get ready to rebuild their roster.
