In a victory against Indiana last weekend, Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa was carried off the field with what seemed to be a knee injury. Although it was a frightening incident, it seems the signal-caller is okay.
According to Matt Fortuna, Tagovialoa will start for the Terrapins against Northwestern on Saturday.
To be fair, Maryland names Taulia Tagovailoa as its starting quarterback for today’s game against Northwestern. After worsening an MCL strain in his right knee during his previous game against Indiana, Tagovailoa has been a game-time decision all week.
The Maryland football star has been battling with an MCL sprain in his right knee, as was previously revealed. Given that Tagovailoa is expected to return to action immediately away, it is obvious that the injury is not significant.
With 2,001 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, and five interceptions so far this season, the junior from Hawaii is having an outstanding campaign for the Terrapins. Additionally, he has completed 72.5% of his passes. Maryland’s record so far this year is 5-2.
Given the knee problem, Tagovailoa participating on Saturday is obviously something to watch out for. It’s difficult to conceive that it recovered that rapidly, but we’ll have to wait and see. It wouldn’t be shocking to see him put on a knee brace once more.
Billy Edwards, the backup quarterback for Maryland’s football team, played well when he took over last Saturday, directing a 72-yard drive that ended with a three-yard rushing touchdown to give the Terrapins a decisive lead.
The game will begin at 3:30 PM ET in College Park. So far, Northwestern is 1-6.
