The ALCS matchup between the New York Yankees and Houston Astros is now difficult for them. After losing on Thursday, the AL East champs were down 0-2 in the series. Even though the Pinstripes performed significantly better than in Game 1, it still wasn’t enough to defeat Houston.
A few prominent figures blame the Astros’ choice to leave Minute Maid Park’s roof open as one of the culprits. Aaron Boone discussed how the roof might have had an impact on the Yankees’ performance after their defeat. He specifically mentions a deep ball hit by Judge that missed, probably as a result of the open ceiling. (Source: Talkin’ Yanks
“I believe that the exposed ceiling nearly killed us. It appears to be a 390 foot ball.
“I think the roof open kind of killed us. I think it’s a 390′ [foot] ball.”

Aaron Judge, a Yankees hitter, responded to the sad eighth-inning deep ball in a far more composed manner. The hard-hitting outfielder claimed that due to the direction of the wind, he knew immediately after hitting the ball that it would not leave the field.
“Not with the way the wind was playing. I hit it to the wrong part of the park for sure”

The Yankees offence struggled once more against the top-notch Astros pitching in Game 2 following a terrible 17 strikeout performance in Game 1. This time, they struck out 13 times, which is not good for the playoffs. In the postseason, the same issues that beset the pinstripes during the regular season appear to still exist.
With a performance like this, especially against the powerful Astros, the Yankees cannot hope to win the ALCS. The batters need to find a way to produce consistently throughout the entire game, wind or no wind.
