For football fans in the Bay Area, the holiday season began early. Running back Christian McCaffrey was traded by the Carolina Panthers to the San Francisco 49ers late on Thursday night for a number of draught picks. Following this significant acquisition, McCaffrey’s new teammates are overjoyed.
According to Jake Hutchison of KNBR, left tackle Trent Williams said, “It felt like Christmas.”
Williams will have a chance to use the 49ers’ new toy because he is not listed as injured for Sunday’s Week 7 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. According to Niners Wire, notable teammates who will play on Sunday include right tackle Mike McGlinchey, standout defensive end Nick Bosa, and safety Jimmie Ward.
This string of fortunate injuries should help the 49ers in their quest to avenge last week’s shocking loss to the Atlanta Falcons, a game Trent Williams and the majority of the regular starting defence were unable to attend due to a variety of injuries.
The 49ers are now in first place with a record of 3-3, but the NFC West is still a very tight fight. The Chiefs would be the team to beat in the NFC West, if not the entire NFC, if they defeated them with their new running back in tow. The 49ers’ Super Bowl odds in Vegas increased significantly after the McCaffrey trade; as of Thursday night, there were only four clubs with shorter odds.
